Terms of Use

These terms cover the FridgEat iPhone app, the FridgEat+ subscription and this website. We’ve kept them as short and clear as we could.

Last updated: October 7, 2026

Who we are

FridgEat is published by Bitek — Nicolas Cordeiro, sole proprietor (entrepreneur individuel), based in France (“we,” “us”). Our details are in the legal notice, and you can reach us any time at bonjour@fridgeat.app.

By downloading or using FridgEat, you agree to these terms and to Apple’s standard license agreement for apps (see Apple’s terms). If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app. How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy.

What FridgEat does

FridgEat helps you keep track of what’s in your fridge, remember dates and cook what you have before it goes to waste. It runs on iPhone (iOS 17 or later) and needs no account.

  • Add items with a photo, a receipt, a barcode, or by hand.
  • FridgEat estimates dates, reminds you before food spoils, and suggests recipes, including step-by-step guided recipes.
  • Share your fridge with your household through iCloud, plan your week and follow your progress.
  • Some features need an internet connection, an iCloud account (sync and the shared fridge) or FridgEat+.

The savings shown in the app (items, weight, money) are rough estimates based on average figures (from ADEME in France and ReFED in the US).

Food safety: dates and recipes

Please read this part

FridgEat is a handy reminder, not a food-safety guarantee. You’re the one who decides what’s safe to eat.

  • Dates are estimates. Unless you enter it yourself, FridgEat doesn’t know the date printed on your pack: it estimates one from the type of food, and you can correct it. Always go by the date on the package and your own judgment.
  • Use-by dates are about safety: don’t eat food after its use-by date. Best-by dates are about quality: food stored properly is often still fine after them. Look, sniff, taste a little, and if in doubt, throw it out.
  • Recipes are for guidance only. Check allergens and cooking times, especially for meat, fish and eggs, and follow the food-safety advice of your local health authorities.
  • Allergies. FridgEat filters recipes using the diet and allergies in your profile, and double-checks custom recipes against them, but it can make mistakes. Always read the ingredients yourself. FridgEat isn’t a medical or nutrition tool.
  • Reminders can fail, for example if notifications are turned off or your iPhone is off. Don’t rely on them alone.

AI features

Some features use artificial intelligence (Anthropic’s Claude) to read your grocery photos and receipts, write custom recipes, or understand a recipe you import. They only run when you use them, after you agree, and with an internet connection. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

  • AI can get things wrong. Check the list before you save it: items FridgEat isn’t sure about are shown in yellow, marked “to check.” On a photo, the AI only lists fresh food and things that go in the fridge, and ignores dry goods and non-food items. On the text of a receipt or a PDF, it lists pantry items too. It finds up to 60 items per analysis.
  • The AI never picks the dates. They’re estimated on your iPhone from a food storage table. For an item the table doesn’t know, FridgEat uses a default shelf life for its category, which may come from the analysis.
  • Only send what’s yours to send. Avoid photographing people or personal documents, and remove personal information from the texts you import.

Free features

FridgEat is free to download. These features stay free: the mascot and its current outfit, adding items by hand, barcodes, reading a receipt or a PDF on your iPhone, reminders, step-by-step guided recipes, the shopping list, the shared fridge, planning your week by hand, your recap, challenges and badges.

You also get 5 free photo analyses to start, then 2 per month, and 3 free recipe imports.

FridgEat+ subscription

FridgEat+ is an optional, auto-renewable subscription, sold by Apple through the App Store.

What’s included

  • 150 photo or receipt analyses per calendar month. One analysis is one request with up to 4 photos, or the AI rereading a receipt or a PDF. Unused analyses don’t roll over.
  • Custom recipes, written for what’s in your fridge.
  • Unlimited recipe imports.
  • Your week of dinners, planned in one tap.
  • Bonus: all the mascot’s accessories and the whole collection of seasonal outfits.

How analyses are counted:

  • an analysis that doesn’t go through (no connection, service down, photo rejected) isn’t counted; one that goes through counts, even if it finds no items, and a batch of photos counts as soon as one photo goes through;
  • reading a receipt or a PDF on your iPhone, barcodes, custom recipes and recipe imports don’t count;
  • the count is kept per iPhone, not per Apple Account, and resets on the 1st of each month at midnight UTC; reinstalling the app or erasing your data doesn’t reset it (our server only deletes it after 12 months without an analysis);
  • the number shown in the app is a guide: our server’s count is what applies;
  • to keep things fair for everyone, each iPhone can send one request every 10 seconds for each feature (analysis, custom recipes, import).

Price and length

PlanLengthUnited StatesUnited Kingdom
FridgEat+ Monthly1 month$2.99 per month£2.99 per month
FridgEat+ Yearly1 year$19.99 per year£19.99 per year

These prices are a guide, for the countries shown. Prices differ in other countries, such as Canada and Australia. The price the App Store shows when you buy is the one that applies, and you always see it before you confirm.

Free trial

Eligible users currently get a 7-day free trial. Apple decides who’s eligible (usually people who haven’t had a FridgEat+ trial before), and the FridgEat+ screen and the App Store show you before you buy whether a trial is offered and how long it lasts: that’s the offer that applies. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription starts and you’re charged. If you allow notifications, FridgEat reminds you 2 days before the end of your trial. If you cancel during the trial, you won’t be charged, and under Apple’s rules your access to FridgEat+ may end right away. Any unused part of a free trial is lost if you buy a subscription during it.

Payment and automatic renewal

  • Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm your purchase or, if you start with a free trial, when the trial ends.
  • Your subscription renews automatically for the same length (1 month or 1 year) unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the end of the current period, at the plan’s current price.
  • If the price goes up, Apple tells you in advance and, where required, asks for your agreement first.

Cancel or manage your subscription

You can manage or cancel FridgEat+ at any time in your Apple Account settings:

  • on your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions;
  • or in FridgEat: My profile → FridgEat+ → Manage my subscription.

Your next renewal date is shown there too. When you cancel, you keep FridgEat+ until the end of the period you’ve paid for; it just won’t renew. Deleting the app doesn’t cancel your subscription. To get FridgEat+ back after changing or resetting your iPhone, use Restore purchases on the FridgEat+ screen.

Refunds

You buy FridgEat+ on the App Store: Apple takes the payment and handles App Store refunds. We never see your payment details and can’t trigger an App Store refund ourselves. To ask Apple for a refund, go to https://reportaproblem.apple.com.

  • When the law gives you a right to a refund or a price reduction (your right to cancel, the legal guarantee of conformity, a change that reduces your access to FridgEat+, FridgEat+ ending before the end of the period you’ve paid for or, in France, a yearly plan that renewed without the written notice French law requires), ask Apple or email us at bonjour@fridgeat.app. If Apple doesn’t grant it, we’ll refund you directly, as the law provides.
  • In any other case, a refund is up to Apple, under its own rules, so we can’t guarantee one.

If Apple refunds you, FridgEat+ turns off. Your statutory rights as a consumer still apply.

Your right to cancel (EU and UK consumers)

If you’re a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you generally have 14 days from your purchase to change your mind, without giving a reason.

  • FridgEat+ is available as soon as you buy it. Because you buy it on the App Store, Apple took the payment: the simplest way is to ask Apple for a refund at https://reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • You can also send us your decision at bonjour@fridgeat.app, for example using the model form below. If Apple doesn’t refund you, we’ll refund you directly, as the law provides.
  • During a free trial, nothing is charged: to pay nothing, just cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

Model withdrawal form

(Complete and return this form only if you wish to withdraw from the contract.)

To Bitek — Nicolas Cordeiro, sole proprietor (entrepreneur individuel), À COMPLÉTER, bonjour@fridgeat.app:

  • I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for the provision of the following service: FridgEat+ subscription (monthly or yearly).
  • Ordered on:
  • Name of consumer:
  • Address of consumer:
  • Signature of consumer (only if this form is notified on paper):
  • Date:

Family Sharing

FridgEat+ is tied to the Apple Account that bought it. If the App Store shows FridgEat+ as available with Family Sharing, the members of your Apple family group can use it too. Your FridgEat household (the shared fridge) is a separate thing: it’s free, and it doesn’t share FridgEat+ on its own.

Changes to FridgEat+

We may improve FridgEat+ and occasionally change what it includes, for a valid reason (for example to add a feature, fix a problem, keep it secure or comply with the law), at no extra cost to you.

  • If a change reduces your access to FridgEat+ or its use more than in a minor way, we’ll tell you clearly in advance, in an app update and on this site. You can then end your subscription at no cost within 30 days of that notice or of the change, whichever comes later: turn off renewal (Settings → your name → Subscriptions), then ask Apple at https://reportaproblem.apple.com, or email us at bonjour@fridgeat.app, for a refund of what you’ve paid for the rest of the period. If Apple doesn’t refund you, we’ll refund you directly.
  • If we stop FridgEat+, we’ll tell you in advance, in an app update and on this site, so you can turn off renewal at no cost. We’ll do our best to keep it working until the end of the period you’ve paid for. If we can’t, what you’ve paid for the rest of the period will be refunded: ask Apple or email us, and if Apple doesn’t refund you, we’ll refund you directly.

Your statutory rights as a consumer still apply.

Apple’s terms (EULA)

FridgEat is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (“EULA”), as applicable. These terms add the rules specific to FridgEat and FridgEat+. If they ever conflict with the EULA on how the app is licensed to you, the EULA prevails.

Apple isn’t responsible for FridgEat or its content and has no obligation to support it: questions and complaints about the app come to us. Your purchases are also covered by Apple’s own terms for the App Store.

Shared fridge and challenges

  • Shared fridge. Everyone in your household can see and change the shared items, shopping list, planned dinners and activity history (which shows who did what), and sees each member’s first name. When you join a household, all your shared content joins it, including your activity history. Only invite people you trust. You can leave at any time, and the person who created the household can remove anyone; each person keeps their own copy. Sharing works through Apple’s iCloud, under Apple’s terms.
  • Challenges. A challenge link contains the first name you chose and your score for the week, and expires after 7 days. Anyone you send it to can see them.

Your content

Your photos, texts, notes and recipes are yours. You only allow us, and the providers listed in our Privacy Policy, to process them as needed to run the features you use, for example to analyze a photo. We don’t claim any rights over them.

Recipes you import belong to their authors, so keep them for your personal use. FridgEat only keeps the text and link you paste, never the video.

Fair use

FridgEat is for your personal, non-commercial use. Please don’t:

  • try to get around the limits, the subscription or the security of the app or our server;
  • automate requests, or copy, decompile or resell the app or its content, except where the law allows it;
  • send illegal content or other people’s personal information;
  • use FridgEat in a way that could harm the service, other users or anyone else.

If an installation abuses the AI features, we may limit or suspend its access to them.

Our content

The FridgEat app, its name, mascot, logo, guided recipes, illustrations and texts, and this website, are protected by intellectual property laws. They belong to us or are used with permission. Please don’t copy or reuse them without our written permission, except as the law allows.

Availability

We work hard to keep FridgEat running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. Features that use our server, the AI, iCloud, the App Store or Open Food Facts depend on those services and on an internet connection, and may be interrupted. What runs on your iPhone keeps working offline. We may update, change or remove features to improve FridgEat or to comply with the law.

Liability

You’re responsible for what you eat: check the printed date, the state of the food and the ingredients.

We’re responsible for providing FridgEat properly, as the law provides. We aren’t responsible when damage is caused:

  • by you, for example if you eat food after its use-by date, or without checking the printed date or the allergens;
  • by a third party’s act that we couldn’t foresee or avoid;
  • or by force majeure (events beyond anyone’s control that couldn’t be foreseen or avoided).

Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

If FridgEat or FridgEat+ doesn’t work as described, write to us and we’ll work to fix it. You’re also covered by the consumer rules where you live, including, in the European Union, the legal guarantee of conformity below.

Legal guarantee of conformity (EU consumers)

If you’re a consumer in the European Union, the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services applies (in France: Consumer Code, Articles L224-25-1 and following). This is a summary, not the official wording:

  • we’re responsible for any lack of conformity in FridgEat+ (and in the free app, where the law applies) that shows up for as long as we supply it to you (for FridgEat+, for the whole length of your subscription);
  • you only have to show the problem, not when it appeared: it’s up to us to prove FridgEat+ was working as it should;
  • we must provide the updates needed to keep it working as it should;
  • you’re entitled to have the problem fixed free of charge, within a reasonable time and without major inconvenience to you;
  • if we refuse, or if fixing it is impossible, delayed, charged to you or a major inconvenience, or if the problem persists, you can get a price reduction or end the contract with a refund, as the law provides; if the problem is serious, you can do so right away; if it’s minor, you can get a price reduction but can’t end a paid contract;
  • any refund is due within 14 days of telling us your decision.

To use this guarantee, email us at bonjour@fridgeat.app: it’s up to us to apply it. If it gives you a right to a refund, you can also ask Apple at https://reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple doesn’t grant it, or for a price reduction, we’ll pay you what you’re owed directly.

Ending

You can stop using FridgEat at any time by deleting the app. Remember to cancel FridgEat+ separately in your Apple Account settings. How to erase your data is explained in our Privacy Policy. We may stop offering FridgEat or some of its features. If we stop FridgEat+, we’ll tell you in advance, in an app update and on this site, so you can turn off renewal at no cost (see Changes to FridgEat+, including refunds).

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes, and we’ll change the date at the top. If a change matters to you, especially for FridgEat+, we’ll tell you in advance (for example in an app update or on this site). If you don’t agree, you can stop using FridgEat and cancel your subscription before the change applies.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. If you’re a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country or state where you live, and you may be able to bring a claim in the courts there.

These terms exist in French and in English. If the two versions differ, the French version prevails, without limiting your consumer rights where you live.

Complaints and mediation

  • If something goes wrong, please write to us first at bonjour@fridgeat.app: we’ll do our best to sort it out quickly and fairly.
  • If we can’t solve it together and you’re a consumer in the European Union, you can refer the dispute free of charge to our consumer mediator. You must first have sent us a written complaint, and contact the mediator within one year of it.
  • Our consumer mediator: À COMPLÉTER.
